Israeli film 'Beaufort' shortlisted for Oscar

Will the cast of Israeli movie 'Beaufort' get a chance to walk down the red carpet during the Oscars ceremony this year? Joseph Cedar's film has recently made it to the list of nine movies nominated for best foreign film, and may make it to the top five.

Next week, On January 22, a special committee will decide which of the nine movies will be included in the shorter, final list of five films to compete for the prestigious award.

This year, 63 films presented their nomination for the award, and the 400 members of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences selected the critically-acclaimed Beaufort, as well as movies from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia and Serbia, as one of the final candidates.

The film, which won the Golden Bear award in the Berlin film festival last year, depicts the difficult reality of life in an IDF military post in Lebanon during the last days before Israel's withdrawal from the region.
